Thelma & Louise for Beneficial Shock

Thelma and Louise
BENEFICIAL SHOCK MAGAZINE | Issue: SEX | Theme: Climax | 2018
One of 4 pieces including: CarrieBonnie & Clyde, and Dr. Strangelove

Physical type created for film magazine Beneficial Shock's issue on sex. The brief was to explore the notion of cinematic climax through typography. Here the climactic moment of Thelma and Louise is represented.

The idea was to create type that leapt through air much like the car of the protagonists did as it jumped of the cliff. In addition, I wanted to create the sense of how the characters had grown throughout the film. The idea that the characters gained a sense of themselves as they progressed through the film was represented by the the type being created through over layered transparencies. It is only through looking through the multiple layers that the type develops colour.
